I came across this great video about organizing a kid’s bedroom or playroom and I just had to share it! I put the tips in writing below, but it’s worth watching to really see her organization ideas come to life. Hope you enjoy it!
Tip #1: Collect half your kid’s toys and get rid of the ones he doesn’t play with and put the others in a box in the attic. In six months you can pull down that toy box and your child will think it’s his birthday!
Tip #2: Get some flexible and adjustable storage bins and baskets. Put just one type of kids toy in each basket, such as leggos, puzzles etc… Put one basket on the shelf of the storage bin. Then label the bins by taking a picture of that exact basket and items in it, then create a sign with the picture of the basket and name of the items inside it. Hang that label from the top of the bin, so a child knows exactly what’s supposed to go on that shelf.
Tip #3: Add a bookshelf to the room. Take a thin strip of wood and put it on the front edge of each shelf. Place books facing outward, so your child can read the title. If you store baskets on the bookshelf remember to only put one type of toy in each basket. Take a picture of each basket and create a sign for each, then tape the sign on the bottom of the shelf where that basket goes. This way, no child or adult can say “I didn’t know where it goes!” when asked why they didn’t clean up.
I hope these tips help you get your kid-space in order. If you didn’t watch the video, I’d recommend you do so you can hear all of her great tips on organizing kid’s rooms.
