How to Get your Clutter-Kid to De-Clutter

OK Moms…it’s time to stop the clutter freaks that live in our houses!!! It’s amazing how my house can start off clean in the morning (cause I cleaned it last night) and then within a few hours it’s totally trashed with clutter piles that spontaneously popped up throughout the day. When I ask whose clutter mess it is the fingers start pointing in every direction, but no one actually fesses up. I’m sure many of you moms out there go through this same thing and have had enough!
Tips on Getting Kids to Clean
Well I’m here to tell you that I’ve figured out a few things that actually make my kids de-clutter without putting up too much of a fight and I just had to share these with all my fellow moms who are living amongst the mess and want to escape.

Five Minute Cleaning Rule

The first thing I did was create a Five Minute Cleaning Rule. My youngest daughter is the biggest clutter maker in my house, so now she has to speed clean for 5 minutes after dinner to clear some of her piles she’s made during the day. This doesn’t get my house spotless, but because it’s only 5 minutes she cleans without whining and gets rid of a few piles here and there. Because I tacked on the “speed” part, she goes super fast and thinks it’s funny and all the while, I’m the one giggling, cause I got her to clean up without having to nag.

Get a Friend to Help

My youngest daughter’s best bud lives right next door and comes over often. He also helps in making several of the messes. So I told her to ask him to help clean up and to my surprise…he did! Now she asks him to clean on a regular basis and more clutter piles are slowly fading away.

One Garbage Bag a Day

I also gave my daughter a garbage bag and told her that when she filled that up with old clothes or garbage…her choice…then she was done cleaning for that day and she didn’t whine or cry with that rule either. Win for me and for mom-kind everywhere!

No Contact with the Outside World

If all else fails and your kid just won’t clean, then I guess you’ll just have to ban him/her from any contact with the outside world till the inside world is clutter-free.

If your child doesn’t have anywhere to put his things consider getting him one of our dressers or bookcases or storage bins or baskets, to help keep things organized.

Classic and Modern Boys Bedroom Furniture Sets and Design Tips

Attention moms of boys! Give that wired up bundle of testosterone, otherwise known as your son, a place to chill out after a long day at school! Don’t just make his room comfy, make it stylish too and he might actually keep it clean enough to have friends hang out! A mom can dream right?

If you’re not quite sure where to start, I have a suggestion…pick a style. Is your son a more traditional type of guy who wants his room to be super comfy and appealing in a typical way or is he the type of kid who wants to really impress his guests and if so, consider going more modern!

To make this task easier, I’ve selected two of my favorite bedroom furniture sets for boys, one in a classic style and one with modern charm and I’ve paired these sets with accessories you could add to create a great guy space. Check out the picture below and let your imagination run wild with boy bedroom design ideas, then read on for some more info.

If you like what you see continue reading to get the scoop on the furniture and accessories featured above.

Classic Boys Bedroom Furniture Set and Accessories

In the classic style I chose the Antique Black Treasures 3 Piece Bedroom Set – Twin Bed, Trundle and Nightstand by Alligator (1). This set is classic because of the square bed and nightstand design, along with standard head and footboard on the bed. Your son will appreciate the storage space he’ll get in the headboard and nightstand. This furniture set is also great because it’s finished in a rich Black stain that goes beautifully with any wall or bedding color, so your son can decide if he wants to go with blue, green or any other color he can dream up.

I’ve paired the Lite Source Henrick Metal Desk Lamp in Polished Steel (1A) with this boys bedroom furniture set because it has a classic design and would fit perfectly on the nightstand to provide enough light for reading in bed.

As for classic seating, there’s nothing more traditional and fun than a bean bag chair like the Blue Sky Suede Big Bag Bean Bag by Comfort Research. (1B) Their beanbag chairs are made to last and provide optimal comfort to every sitter thanks to the top quality foam filling inside. You might want to even get more than one to give your son’s friends a place to sit!

Modern Boys Bedroom Furniture Set and Accessories

When it comes to modern you don’t get more cool and hip than the Chocolate Back Bay 4 Piece Bedroom Set – Full Headboard, 5 Drawer Chest and Matching Nightstands by SouthShore (2). I’m totally crazy about this boys bedroom furniture set because of the sleek straight line designs and decorative molding on the headboard along with fancy silver handles on the dresser and nightstand. It’s just so modish in a manly way!

What’s not to love about the Lite Source Tiya Table Lamp in Black (2A). Can’t you just picture it sitting on the nightstand? The unique shape of the base makes the lamp totally contemporary and the black is just stunning with the chocolate furniture set.

A room wouldn’t be modern if it didn’t have that one piece that added extra pizzazz and that’s why I included the Ebony on Walnut Perch Leather Lounge by Offi (2B). I’m nuts about the modern shape of this chair and the beautiful mix of black cushions with silver frame. The extra storage space below is just another benefit and can help your son stay a little more organized. Get a few of these contemporary seats and your son will love inviting friends to hang out.

No matter which style you go with, just remember, your goal is to give your son a room that he’s proud of and it’s a win/win for you both! Good luck designing!

How to Find the Right Kids Chairs for the Right Kid Moments

Kids can’t chill out if they don’t have somewhere to sit and relax. It’s up to parents to find the right kids chairs for the job! Believe it or not this takes careful planning because you have to first know your kid’s schedule and habits.
kids chairs
I know my girls LOVE to play the Wii, yet I really don’t want them doing it for more than an hour or so per day, so instead of giving them gaming chairs I let them pull out some very uncomfortable folding chairs, so after about an hour their behinds are a little sore and their desire to play Wii is over.

On the other hand if you, personally, are into playing the Wii and that’s how you spend family time with your kids then I’d recommend getting a few cozy seats like the Blue MOD Lounger by Offi, so you can spend some quality family time together and stay comfy the entire time. These seats also look really unique in a space and will spruce up any room decor!

Now, since my home is made up of mostly girls (besides my hubby) then you know there’s a lot of talking going on. Since we’re a gabby family I’ve set-up a comfy seating area in our playroom where me and the girls can go and hang out for a while. The perfect chairs for this type of space are the Comfort Research Bean Bag Chairs. I’d recommend getting a two-seater for mom and dad to share and then one single-seater for each child and you’ll be amazed at how much more quality time your family will spend together when there’s a place designed just for that.

Another very important kid seat is the homework chair. If kids don’t have a study space their school work just doesn’t get done, or done well. That’s where a comfy desk chair comes into play, or if you don’t have an actual desk why not get a chair like the Rock-a-Buddies Schoolhouse Rocker that comes with an attached pencil box, plus Flip up Hinged Desk, Abacus and even a music box that plays the ABC song. It’s also a fun rocker, so when homework time is over your child is sure to stick around and rock a while to relax after a long day.

My girls love to read, but it took me several trips to the library to finally find some books that interested them. They also struggled with figuring out a good place for quiet reading time until I added a reading seat to their bedrooms. The perfect type of reading seat is one like the Rock-a-My-Baby Bench Seat with Storage. You can put this seat against the wall or under a window and it’s comfy up top and has plenty of storage for books below.

Companies like Levels of Discovery, Comfort Research and Offi, plus many others have amazing kids chairs to satisfy every kid need. To see more visit us today at SimplyKidsFurniture.com.

Kids with a Party House Have More Fun!

Some parents don’t think it’s up to them to show their kids how to have a good time, but I do! If we don’t show kids how to have fun they can end up slouching around the house all day saying “I’m BORED!”
Kids Furniture for Fun Playrooms
Kids learn by example, so why not set-up a party room in your home that’s designed with lots of fun things that are sure to keep kids entertained and happy! It’s really not that hard. And as you set it up you can reminisce with your kids about all the fun you used to have, so they know how to have fun too!

Simply think about what you liked to do as a kid. For me it was dancing and singing, CONSTANTLY, so to encourage my kids to do the same I created a play room that includes a microphone, stereo and karaoke machine. I even got a 70s disco ball that they turn on often! Now my one daughter thinks she’s a super star diva and when her girlfriends come over it’s definitely party time!

My other daughter can’t even sing Happy Birthday, but she’s crazy about games, so for her I set-up a shelving unit stocked with all my old favorites like checkers, chess, monopoly, decks of cards and some of the latest kids games too! So her parties consist of game time and chatting about boys.

In the center I’ve included a huge wooden kids table that has become the “everything table” like the Nest Play Table by Offi. This is where my kids can sit and socialize with their friends, have snacks, do arts and crafts or anything else fun they need a table for. Instead of regular chairs, I put ottomans with built in storage that are comfy to sit on and can also hold kid party things like CDs, video games, dress-up clothes and more. The ottomans I got are exactly like the Play Ottomans by P’kolino. These comfy and functional ottomans are offered in tons of fun colors to easily match any play space.

We of course also included a TV and kids couch, so they can chill during their more relaxed party moments. If you can’t fit a couch, I’d recommend getting some Comfort Research bean bag chairs that can be moved around anywhere to create a great chilling out space.

If you have even more room you might want to throw in a full media center that can hold all of your media equipment like TV, stereo, game console and more and your kids will NEVER be bored again!
